Play Number One

In this clip, the tableside trail official does not assume the proper position to officiate the play.  The trail official should initially be positioned at the 28’ mark and move from that position.  The trail in this clip is somewhere near the division line (definitely too deep).  The tableside lead official is closed down and then moves across the lane to obtain ball side (strong side) position.  The ball then is shifted back to the tableside of the court.  The tableside trail official should have moved to a position free throw line extended when the lead official rotated to the strong side and became the new center official.  Instead, the trail moved to the 28’ line.  In addition, the old center official must wait until the old trail official moves to the tableside center position before moving out to the new opposite trail position.  When the lead rotated back to the tableside, the old trail, who should have been the tableside center official moved to a position out close to the division line once again.  When a try for goal is attempted, the outside officials (center and trail) must shift their body weight forward and move towards the end line and not bail out on the play.  As the ball is being batted around, you will notice the trail official moving out of the frame.

This play is not properly officiated.

Play Number Two

Where is the official who is making the ruling on this play.  The traveling violation occurs in the primary coverage area (PCA) of the lead official.  The lead does not rule a travel and the center (opposite) does not rule a travel.  The only possible official left to make this ruling in the tableside trail official.  The problem is the trail official is nowhere to be found in the video clip.  The ruling on the play is correct, but the official who makes the ruling is out of position.  The trail official should be at the 28’ line at a minimum.

The center and trail official must be prepared to assist with travels that occur in front of the lead official.  This is the proper ruling on the play, but the lack of hustle to obtain the proper position in order to make the ruling on this play is inexcusable.

Play Number Four

The attached clip is an illegal screen that was not called.  This is a NCI (no call incorrect).  The play occurs in the PCA of the Lead official.  This type of illegal action must be penalized.  The Trail official has an open look at this play and should have assisted.
